When the weather outside is frightful, and the space heater is so delightful. . . and the rain and wet leaves are . . . yeah whatever. It’s cold but that doesn’t mean that we have to go all hermit during the winter time. There are still oodles of opportunities to get out there and get on the bike. Keep that blood flowing. Just keep the mittens on!

PWBL2-240x134The first is for all those racers that don’t want to get all soft this winter. Fast paced training morning rides averaging at 22-24 mph on the flats, starting at 60 miles and working up to 115 miles. Get the full information here and the Facebook page here.

While race season is winding up for the year, there are still some great cyclocross races you can squeeze in that go all the way into December. This includes the ever popular Kruger’s Crossing on November 24th.

roundup-leadThe Lumberyard is putting on an event called Helltrack on Nov 23 & 24th. This is going to be a multi-lap obstacle course where riders are going to go head-to-head, indoor and outdoor features. Kid-friendly. Pretty awesome. Here’s the BikePortland write-up on it. There’s going to be an after-party sponsored by Redbull. If you haven’t had a chance to get down to The Lumberyard yet, this would be the weekend do to it. (“Helltrack” obviously being a play on the best movie ever; Rad.)

If you’re looking for a something a little more social paced, this fall I’ve teamed up with Tom, another member of the cycling community who had a fantastic creation. From that was born PuddleCycle. This encourages riders to come out, explore different areas of town and go somewhere or do something that they may not have done before. It’s a series of 17 rides happening every weekend from November through March. Here’s also a link to our Facebook page.

cranksgiving_WEBSIZE500Partnering with PuddleCycle, two other people; Zed who has been doing a ton of work for the Shift community lately and Laura; Tom and I came together to put together a bike rally and fundraiser this November 23rd; Cranksgiving. Teams of 2 – 5 will go around collecting items to bring back for the beneficiary; Outside In. Prizes and fun stuff. Meet-up location and after party at Velo Cult. Here is a write-up/interview of Laura from Bike Portland.

And there is always keeping tabs of what events Easy Riders are doing on their Facebook group. They had a resurgence of activity this autumn with their “Leaf Lookin’ Ride” and seems like they are interested in keeping the pedals turning .
